The underground spotted on the surface
Naill Reid, Moderator of the Synod of the New United Church in Australia, has an interesting idea, a “mystic” like idea. He tells us
“The church should let go of its ‘holy, sacred spaces as beautiful as they may be’ and work to establish an ‘underground’ community of faithful that connects with the spiritual needy in pubs, on beaches and in shopping malls.” (Read the article here.)
What began as a fictional narrative here at Into the Mystic, eventually manifested in reality with the IMN initiative called Voxtropolis and the Culture Pubs. These same ideas pop up “here and there” and from “time to time” on the lips of Christian leaders in more traditional roles, like Naill Reid.
That’s good news. Here’s a hat tip to the guys and gals that are doing what the leaders, gurus, writers, and consultants are talking about…
Voxtropolitans and M Operatives (Californians) Eric Sweiven and Heath Dalrymple, Dean Sharp, Ted Law (Texas), (Floridians) Dan Harshbarger, Chris Marsden, Josh Taylor and Jason Dukes, (The Brits) Ryan Offut along with Sam and Rachel Radford, Hermann du Plessis (South Africa), Mike Harris (Michigan), Shawna Snow (Amsterdam), and (soon) Patrick Voo (Canada) are all DOING what the leaders, writers, gurus and consultants are talking about.
I don’t want to generalize in favor about the wisdom of selling off the sacred spaces — sometimes that may be the worst thing to do — but I’m totally a “GO” on moving out into the world at large. We call this becoming normal again.
Our Culture Pub Initiatives are designed to be an underground “Mystic” network that has both a “cyber” dimension and a “concrete” world dimension.
HT to Aussie blogger Matt Stone whose “incoming link” to my blog led me to his blog and this article.
Here’s a link to some of the earlier “not so much factual or fictional, but actual” posts regarding the underground world of into the mystic.
What do you think?
