The strangeness of my life hit me in a weird way today. I was taking a morning run. I’m trying to get back in shape and lose weight. I just need to do this.

At the same time, as I pick up the pace of my walk to increase my heart rate, my thoughts are filled with the practical matters of running a household — pay the medical, take Erica to School, get Lucas to do his math, the car needs oil, how do I get Erica a harp, don’t forget to order Lucas’ birthday presents, etc.

When I get home I’ll turn my thoughts towards the Human Event, an event created by the IMN designed to create breakthrough missional thinking, new language for mission in the 21st century, and innovative field oriented results. I’ll also check my email to see if my editor has sent back the manuscript of a book I’m writing called Making the World Human Again.

There it is — Change the world and lose weight. Big and Small. Global and personal. Idealistic and Practical. Impossible and even more impossible.

As Christ followers, this is a uniqueness of your life as well as mine. One writer put it this way…The Christ following life is one in which we know that the world is going to hell in a handbasket but that it’s still ok to go bowling on Friday nights.

Well, I’m going to go lay on the floor and pretend I’m doing sit ups now.

See you in the mystic…

Alex, good to know you’re ‘human’ like the rest of us as well!
